Restaurant Opportunities Center of Chicago

ROC-Chicago

Who are we?

Launched in the Fall of 2008, the Restaurant Opportunities Center of Chicago (CHI-ROC) is dedicated to winning improved conditions and raising industry standards for all Chicagoland restaurant workers.

What we do?

Training and Job Placement

CHI-ROC is offering free training in fine dining waiter/waitress, front of the house 101, basic bartending, as well as ESOL classes for restaurant workers.  CHI-ROC will be using the comprehensive training programs that ROC has developed in New York City, where it trains more than 500 workers per year in its cooperatively-owned restaurant.  Most of these workers have obtained good jobs in the industry.  CHI-ROC will help to both train and place restaurant workers into good jobs.

Surveys and Research

We are currently conducting surveys of restaurant workers in the Chicagoland area to learn more about their experiences.  The results of this survey will be published in a comprehensive industry study and will help us to develop our programs and to build public recognition of restaurant workers' contributions to the Chicago area.
