The Restaurant Opportunities Center of Miami (ROC-MIAMI) is a restaurant workers' organization dedicated to improving working conditions for restaurant workers in
ROC-MIAMI is a worker-led organization and there are many opportunities for participation. You can join any one of our worker committees which develop programming for ROC-MIAMI, such as our Leadership Committee, Policy Committee, Women's Committee, or Jobs/Training Committee. ROC-MIAMI has also just begun publishing its own newspaper for restaurant workers and members are invited to contribute to the writing, publication, and distribution of Serving Justice.
Training Schedule 2010
Our semesters are seven weeks long. The next semester begins in early April. We are currently offering free bartending, fine-dining serving, and photography courses. In order to qualify to attend classes you must meet the following criteria: Fine-dining server classes are open to anyone who is interested in receiving fine dining server training. Bartending classes are open to restaurant workers who have been working in the restaurant industry for at least 6 months or who have successfully completed the fine-dining serving class. Photography classes are only open to current restaurant workers. If you would like to find out more information and sign up, please attend a ROC worker orientation meeting at 945 Pennsylvania Ave (South Beach) on one of the following dates:

How to become a ROCer:
Any current or former restaurant worker, worker interested in entering the restaurant industry, or relative of a restaurant worker can become a member of ROC-MIAMI. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact us to sign up for one of our weekly orientations. Orientations last about one hour and are a great way to learn more about the organization, meet other restaurant workers, and join the movement for justice for
ROC-MIAMI is always seeking volunteers. If you have special skills or just want the opportunity to get involved in a way we have not mentioned here, please comtact us.

Calendario de Cursos 2010
Nuestros semestres tienen una duración de 7 semanas. El próximo semestre inicia la primera semana de abril. Actualmente estamos ofreciendo cursos gratis de bartending, mesero/a para restaurantes de lujo y cursos de fotografía.
Las clases de bartending están abiertas a trabajadores de restaurante que hayan trabajado por lo menos 6 meses en la industria o para quienes hayan completado satisfactoriamente el curso de mesero/a para restaurantes de lujo.
Las clases de fotografía están disponibles únicamente para trabajadores de restaurante que actualmente se encuentren activos en la industria.

Cómo convertirse en un ROCer:
Cualquier empleado de restaurante actual o anterior, cualquier trabajador que desee ingresar a la industria restaurantera, o familiar de cualquier empleado de restaurante puede convertirse en miembro de ROC-MIAMI. Si estás interesado(a) en convertirte en miembro, por favor contáctanos para inscribirte en una de nuestras juntas de orientación semanales. La junta de orientación dura aproximadamente una hora y es una forma excelente de aprender más acerca de la organización, conocer a otros trabajadores de restaurantes, y ¡unirse al movimiento para lograr justicia para los trabajadores de restaurantes de Miami!
