ROC-Michigan
Who are we?
Launched in June 2008, the Restaurant Opportunities Center of Michigan (ROC-MI) is dedicated to winning improved conditions and raising industry standards for all Detroit metro restaurant workers.
What we do
Training and Job Placement
ROC-MI is offering free training in fine dining waiter/waitress, bartending, as well as ESL classes for restaurant workers. ROC-MI will be using the comprehensive training programs that ROC has developed in New York City, where it trains more than 500 workers per year in its cooperatively-owned restaurant. Most of these workers have obtained good jobs in the industry. ROC-MI will help to both train and place restaurant workers into good jobs.
Surveys and Research
We are currently conducting surveys of restaurant workers in Detroit and the metro area to learn more about their experiences. The results of this survey will be used to help us to develop our programs and to build public recognition of restaurant workers' contributions to the metro area.
